Alonzo
Davis,
a California native currently working in Maryland, brings his
unique, innovative technique to the series “Passageways.”
Davis melds paint, bamboo, copper, leather, and indigenous textiles
into spectacular mixed media works. He remarks of Passageways
that he looks “at these artworks as paintings in the round.”
Each work is a singular creation with a spirit and personality
of its own. Characteristic of Davis’s work, the series
takes inspiration from a rich cultural spectrum: the Southwestern
United States, Brazil, Haiti, West Africa, and the Pacific Rim.
Alonzo Davis has exhibited widely in the United States and in
Costa Rica, Finland, and Sweden. His works are held by collectors
throughout the world, and his site specific works and murals,
including the Olympic Mural Series for the 1984 Los Angeles
Olympics, grace cities throughout the United States.
