Annie Lee is an internationally and nationally acclaimed artist and gallery owner known to art collectors all over the world. Annie began drawing and painting at the age of 10 and continued to pursue her art career at The Art Institute of Chicago and the Academy of art in Chicago. Her themes are jazz musicians, singers and dancers, inspired by her love for jazz music. Her faceless figures focus on movement, and their gestures depict action and emotion that the viewer may experience. We feel joy, laughter, comfort, and even identify with these figures expressing passion and emotion. Annie is a humorist and a realist, with her style often referred to as “Black Americana.” Her work has been in Bill Cosby’s spin off show “A Different World,” Eddie Murphy’s “Coming to America” and “Boomerang.” Annie Lee is a pioneer, a legend, a true survivor and mentor.
J. Anthony Brown is known in America for his comedic lines on stage and for being one of the co-hosts of the Tom Joyner Morning Show. He is also an actor/entertainer extraordinaire known for his wit and remarkable ability to paint images with words. Another side of Brown became apparent when sharing his artistic renderings with the public. His chalk, marker and colored pencil designs are often executed while on the air with Tom Joyner. His explosions of color and strong use of lines in his compositions take a center stage in his many sketchbook designs. Brown draws what he feels. His characters and images are considered in the art world as “naïve” and spontaneous, with an emotional and personal view of the way a thought or words, or even music makes him feel at a particular time. Brown’s sketches are fresh, inviting and true to the man who creates images for people to smile and laugh. This is J. Anthony Brown’s premier exhibition.
