BACKGROUND: International
Visions – The Gallery is celebrating its 10th Anniversary
by holding a gala to benefit Africare.
International Visions -
The Gallery's mission is to exhibit and promote multi-cultural
original work by national and international artists. International
Visions presents visual art exhibitions and special cultural traditions
in dance, music, theater and the literary arts. Through art, The
Gallery’s goal is to become a geographical link between
people, cultures, and beliefs.
Africare has been helping
African peoples improve their quality of life, their personal
well-being and their world for 37 years. Africare creates an environment
where children are educated and nurtured, families have adequate
food, shelter, clothing and health care, natural resources are
protected, women are empowered and communities live peaceably.
There are four different
levels of corporate and individual sponsorships available for
THE GALA:
Gnawa ~ $10,000+ Makossa
~ $5,000 to $10,000
Gnawa is a style of Morrocan music with Sub-Saharan Makossa is
a form of music that emerged from Cameroon
roots. Gnawa music is associated with healing rituals and bears
the influence of Jazz and Rhumba. Its
and has strong ties to the Blues and Brazilian music. prominent
bass rhythm lends to celebration and dance.
Rai ~ $1,000 to $5,000
Wassoulou ~ $100 to $1,000
Rai is a form of Algerian music based in Bedouin folk Wassoulou
is a passionate lyrical and instrumental music
culture. It is symbolic of social protest and its from Mali. Performed
by women and symbolic of womanhood,
lyrics often decry poverty, suffering and repression. it addresses
issues such as fertility and maternity.
Sponsors receive recognition in several ways. You will be included
in all press releases and Gala printings as well as in gallery
mailings and the Africare annual report. Gnawa and Makossa sponsors
will receive a table for eight and Rai and Wassoulou sponsors
will receive a half table (4 seats) at the event. Most importantly,
forty cents of each sponsorship dollar goes directly to Africare
and forty percent of your donation is fully tax-deductible.
In-kind donations of goods,
such as items for our live or silent auction, are also welcome
and forty percent of the retail value of those items is tax-deductible.
