International Visions Gallery is please to present Nigerian painter Stanley Osaheni Agbontaen in the exhibition: “A Celebration of Life”, from November 10th, 2011 – January 7th, 2012.
“A Celebration of Life” features Stanley Agbontaen’s newest body of work including 23 oil paintings and 7 wood block panels. Agbontaen’s work celebrates Nigeria’s resilient people and the beauty in their daily rituals, and the energy of its bustling urban centers and marketplaces. Using a pallet knife, he creates vibrant scenes of people dancing, music being played and the viewer will be transferred to his homeland, Nigeria. He uses thickly applied oil paint that are rich in color for us to experience his interpretation of the celebration of life.
Stanley Agbontaen grew up in Benin City, Edo State in the South-south zone of Nigeria. He studied at the Creative Art Academy (Benin City) and at The School of Art and Design at Auchi Polytechnic. Agbontaen has been featured on Nigeria’s National Television Authority, received the Federal Capital Territory Award, and was nominated by the U.S. State Department to the International Visitor and Leadership Program. He is the founder and coordinator of Centre for the Arts & Cultural Heritage, a non-governmental organization set up primarily to develop, engage and educate the minds of young Nigerians through artistic workshops and programs. He has shown at international Visions in the past and has been highly collected by collectors all over the world.
