Betty
Murchison has spent a lifetime working
with fragmented "real" stories about relationships
and the emotions that accompany them such as passion,
love, sadness, solitude, and loneliness.
“I always begin a new work with the certainty
that a figure will emerge which will cause the excitement
that encourages me to bring a canvas to life. This new
body of work was painted in that manner. Most of the
paintings, I feel, are more fully figurative, less gestural
and have smoother and more even brushstrokes and color
than some of my previous work. I can’t get away
from painting people, they interest me.” - Betty Murchison
A native of Chicago, Betty has spent most of her life
as a painter. She earned a Masters of Teaching in Arts
at Trinity College in Washington, D.C. Over the past
two decades she has had numerous solo exhibitions in
Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Chicago, and Atlanta.
Her work is included in collections of HBO-New York,
The City of Rockville, The District of Columbia Art
in Public Places Program, and by private collectors
throughout the United States.
