Jefferson
Pinder began his visual arts journey
working in the medium of collage. Inspired by David
Driskell, Romare Bearden and Robert Rauschenburg, Jefferson
cuts and slices print media to explore Afro-American
identity. Pinder is also currently collaborating with
filmmakers to created performance art short films. Most
recently his films have been featured at the Woodstock
Film Festival in NY and Studio Museum of Harlem. Jefferson
earned his B.A and MFA from University of Maryland.
Jefferson was a 2002/2003 recipient of the University
of Maryland David C. Driskell Center for the Study of
the African Diaspora Fellowship. His other honors include
the Artist Trust GAP Grant Award and Sadat Peace Art
Prize.
Lauren
Saxon began her formal studies
in art at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington,
DC. She is a graduate from Colgate University where
she earned a B.A. in Art and Art History with a concentration
in Studio Art. Her oil paintings are images of real
people created in her own abstract, expressionistic
form. Her use of color and movement within the painting
creates a mood or depth that is not only intriguing,
but also mysterious. In 2003, Lauren represented the
Colgate University Art Department at the National Conference
for Undergraduate Research at the University of Utah
in Salt Lake City. Lauren has worked under celebrated
Washington artist Mary Anne Reilly since 2001. Lauren
also advanced her studies in art at Syracuse University
in Florence, Italy and at New York University in New
York City.
