Anna Demovidova
was born in 1974 in Rostov the Great, Russia. She studied art at
the Kalinin's Art Academy in Moscow, and at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens
Point. Demovidova is a prolific figurative painter; her work is
bright, expressive, and often humorous. "Washington Paintings"
follows a Young Emerging Artist Grant Award Demovidova received
from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. The work is a
fusion of interviews and soundscapes with oil paintings, among which
are a portrait of Michael Clark, an artist and owner of MOCA Gallery,
and local jazz musicians. Halide Salam, Professor of Art and curator
of the Radford University Art Museum, said of Demovidova's recent
