Anna Demovidova was born in 1974 in Rostov the Great, Russia. She studied art at the Kalinin's Art Academy in Moscow, and at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point. Demovidova is a prolific figurative painter; her work is bright, expressive, and often humorous. "Washington Paintings" follows a Young Emerging Artist Grant Award Demovidova received from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. The work is a fusion of interviews and soundscapes with oil paintings, among which are a portrait of Michael Clark, an artist and owner of MOCA Gallery, and local jazz musicians.
