Stanley Agbontaen draws on the bustling urban culture of his hometown Benin City, Nigeria as inspiration for his portraits and cityscapes. He utilizes a palette knife to apply thick coats of oil paint on canvas. His richly layered canvases are imbued with an energy and immediacy that draws viewers into their depths. Before emigrating to the U.S., Mr. Agbontaen co-founded the Centre for the Arts & Cultural Heritage a non-profit arts education organization for Nigerian youth. In 2007, he was nominated and sponsored by the U.S. State Department for the International Visitor and Leadership Program. His work has been featured in several exhibitions including Two American Icons – Jacob Lawrence and Lois Mailou Jones -& Six Young Nigerian Contemporary Artists which was organized in part by the National Gallery of Art (2006) and Stanley Agbontaen: A Celebration of Life (International Visions Gallery, 2012).

To honor our mission to promote multicultural original artwork within the Washington, DC community, International Visions Gallery is pleased to host our annual Summer Inventory Sale. Reduced prices will be offered on a variety of artwork from national and international artists. Sculpture, paintings, drawings and prints from Australia, Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Nigeria, Russia, South Africa, Sudan, Uganda, the United States of America, Uruguay, and Zimbabwe will be included in the sale.

International Visions Gallery is pleased to present new work by mixed media artist, Kevin Cole. One of Atlanta's most exciting mid-career artists, Mr. Cole combines the techniques of painting, etching and sculpting to create three-dimensional abstract assemblages that explore the interplay between color and music and incorporate references to African American history and culture. Mr. Cole received his M.A. Art Education/ Painting from the University of Illinois (Champaign, IL) and his M.F.A in Drawing from Northern Illinois University (Dekalb, IL). Mr. Cole’s work is in the collections of the Corcoran Gallery; Nations Bank, Charlotte; IBM, New York; The Tampa Museum in Florida, Yale University, Morris Museum, and the Dayton Institute of Art, Dayton, OH.

International Visions Gallery celebrates its 17th Anniversary with the annual "Small Works Exhibition"
The Small Works Exhibition will feature over 40 national and international artists displaying their works in photography, collage, sculpture, painting, prints, mixed media and more at special anniversary pricing.
