Mikhail
Gubin was born in Kharkov, Ukraine in 1953. In 1970 he graduated
from Kharkov Art School. In 1989 Mikhail Gubin immigrated to New
York by way of Vienna and Rome. He has had numerous solo and group
exhibitions (including a 1998 solo exhibition at the International
Visions), receiving multiple awards and praising reviews from the
New York Times among many others. His work shows an impressive mastery
of metaphorical and allegorical subjects, displaying both his dry
humor and his bold approach to the figure in his vigorous and expressive
work. Ernst Neizvestny, a renowned artist and philosopher, said,
"Gubin's work occupies a unique place in which there is synthesis
of freedom of expression and feelings and true artistic professionalism."
