South Africa, Uganda, and the Congo.”
Featured Artist: Fred Mutiebi
Opening Reception: Saturday,

Exhibition Dates-

*A special demonstration will be held on April 9th 2-5pm
by Fred Mutebi from Uganda. All are Welcome
Fred Kato Mutebi is a native of Uganda who
is active in print making. His work has traditionally celebrated
Uganda’s natural beauty and also focuses on the need
to preserve that beauty. Mutebi creates works that carry social
and political messages as well as relying in anecdotes and
stories to capture those messages. His primary mediums are
printing and painting. He has found a method that combines
the two to his satisfaction, namely relief painting.
|
|
This
technique allows the artist a wider palette through multiple
applications of pigment. Mutebi prints a single piece five
times as he moves from light to dark colors, etching out the
contours of the image in progressive stages according to the
colors applied. Mutebi’s work involves crisp lines and
clear forms, which allows him to focus on patterns in his
environment. Mutebi was a Fulbright Scholar and has received
the highest honors as a working artist in Africa. Mutebi has
exhibited throughout Europe, Africa, and Japan.
